Perenco, an independent oil & gas company that was founded in 1975 and operates in sixteen countries across the globe, awarded Belmet a contract to fabricate fourteen Mono Pod-Clamps for their operations in Gabon.

Strict dimensional tolerances were to be met and all full penetration welding was tested at 100% Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and 100% Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI).  A comprehensive quality control data book was compiled covering detailed dimensional control during all the various steps of fabrication with material traceability.

The clamps were predominantly fabricated from 25mm thick EH36 plate material that was rolled into cones or cylinders, as required and after welding, these were split into halves with 40mm thick flanges then joining these halves.  Final welding was performed using a specially designed jig that minimised distortion and maintained the tight tolerances specified.

The total mass of fabricated steel was approximately 43 tonnes and all clamps were trial fitted on a custom-built jig to ensure that the completed work met the customer’s exacting requirements. Fabrication commenced in October 2009 and all the units were completed within an eight week period and despatched in late November 2009.
