DAMEN SHIPYARDS – TUG BOATS

Damen Shipyards, the leader in modular shipbuilding based on standardised designs, contracted Belmet to fabricate two 2208 Stan Tug Boats.

The scope of work included the fabrication of the hull, the deck, all bulkheads, deck house, wheelhouse, and small steelwork such as watertight doors, hatches, pump bases, motor bases, staircases, towing bitts, bollards, soft patches and hand railings.  It also included the fitment and alignment of two stern tubes and two propeller nozzles per Stan Tug.

Fabrication on the first Stan Tug began in June 2008 and delivery to client occurred in January 2009. The second Tug’s fabrication commenced in February 2009 and was delivered to the client in September 2009.  Both Stan Tugs were fabricated to Bureau Veritas Rules for Shipbuilding and were each completed within an eight month period.

The Stan Tug has a length of 22,64m and a beam of 7.84m.  The total estimated weight of all steelwork completed was about 110 tonnes and the hull was transported in one section to Damen Shipyard’s premises using a special abnormal trailer with steerable wheels and height adjustable suspension.

Both Tug Boats were fabricated to BV Rules for Shipbuilding.
